Teletherapy
Put simply, teletherapy, also known as telehealth counseling among other things, is mental health therapy offered remotely using electronic devices, videoconferencing software and internet connection. Although teletherapy in the healthcare industry is not new, its use accelerated during the Covid-19 pandemic to continually provide access to therapeutic and healthcare services from a distance.
-
One of the greatest advantages of teletherapy is accessibility. It is especially convenient for clients who have limited mobility, lack access to transportation or childcare, and lack flexibility in their schedules. Teletherapy is known to offer more privacy and comfort, as it eliminates the need to visit a physical location. Clients can attend therapy sessions in locations where they are most comfortable.
-
For clients who have small children or little privacy at home, finding time and space for therapy can be challenging, and in such cases, in-person sessions may be preferred. Technical difficulties may arise when using technology and cause disruption in the counseling session. Slow internet connections, problems with video software, and operator error are a few challenges that may occur, which can have a negative impact on the counseling session.

At Jordan Bridge Counseling Services, telehealth is offered via videoconferencing software; therefore, an electronic device with a video camera, microphone, and speaker is required. Appropriate devices include smart phones, MacBooks, iPads, laptops and personal computers. For a successful teletherapy experience, Wi-Fi connection is ideal over the use of data connection via a mobile service provider. The use of a private, quiet, well-lit location is preferred. Please do not opt to have your session in a public location, as it puts your privacy at risk. Appropriate attire is recommended. Treat your appointment as if it were an in-office session.
