FAQs

  • This practice is ideal for adults, students, professionals, or parents who need support managing day to day stressors, are feeling overwhelmed, or just need help making sense of their feelings and unwanted behaviors. I support clients who present with anxiety, depression and other mood disorders. I support clients who struggle with communicating appropriately, identifying and expressing their feelings, managing conflict, and those who are having difficulties within their relationships with others. If you are experiencing active suicidal or homicidal thoughts, auditory or visual hallucinations, or working through an addiction, this may not be the best setting for you; however, I will support you in getting connected to a provider that may be able to better assist you.

  • For the first 15 minutes, we will spend time getting to know one another to determine if we are a good fit for each other. I will then ask questions about your reason for seeking support. I will ask questions about your current and past physical and mental health. We will discuss your social and family history, previous trauma, significant stressors, and precipitating factors leading you here. The goal is to make an accurate assessment of your needs, discuss treatment options and the best course of action for you, and plan for follow-up. The second session may be more of the same depending on the progress of the first session.

  • A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) is a master’s or doctorate level mental health service provider trained to work with individuals, couples, families and groups with their behavioral and emotional distress. After graduation, aspiring LPCs in Virginia are required to complete a 3,400-hour residency counseling experience with various populations and clinical disorders, and theoretical orientations. To become licensed by the Virginia Board of Counseling, you must pass the National Clinical Mental Health Counselors Examination (NCMHCE). An LPC is able to practice professionally and independently, yet is required to adhere to a strict code of ethics that governs the practice of mental health counseling.

  • Absolutely! You can rest assured that information you share with me about your personal life will remain confidential. Of course, there are exceptions, which I typically discuss during our initial session. To give you a snippet of this discussion, I would only share your information with other professionals IF you are in danger, you are a danger to yourself, or you’re a danger to someone else. In this case, I would only disclose limited information about you to get you connected to other professionals that can help.
