LPC Supervision - Virginia
I enjoy working with individuals who have aspirations of becoming Licensed Professional Counselors. As we confront ongoing challenges and stressors that adversely affect our mental well-being, the demand for capable, empathetic, and ethical counselors is steadily increasing. It is a privilege for me to play a part in providing solutions and assisting those who require our specialized knowledge and support.

Supervision is an interactive and collaborative process intended to monitor the quality of client care, improve clinical skills, and facilitate professional and personal growth.
Supervision may consist of oral case presentations and conceptualizations, role playing, interactive activities, discussions of modalities, reviews of audio or video segments of sessions when able (with consent from agency and client), in addition to discussions of transference, countertransference, cultural issues, personal biases, and other personal challenges that arise in response to clients and or agency issues.

As a clinical supervisor, I play multiple roles in the supervisory relationship which include but are not limited to teacher, counselor, consultant, coach, and mentor/role model.
As a teacher, my primary emphasis is on nurturing the development and practical application of acquired skills.
As a counselor, it is important to clarify that I am not serving as your personal counselor. However, I actively promote the management of personal issues and prioritize self-care as essential measures to prevent burnout.
As a consultant, my primary focus revolves around case consultation and conceptualization. I offer valuable insights and recommendations, drawing from my personal experiences, to assist you in effectively addressing the unique needs of individuals receiving services.
As a coach, my primary responsibility is to provide unwavering support, foster encouragement, and ignite motivation in each person I supervise.
As a mentor/role model, I aim to serve as a role model and facilitator in your journey towards professional growth and the development of your identity as a mental health counselor.

I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the Virginia Board of Counseling website where you can obtain information regarding supervision requirements, the application process, and the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Examination.

Each individual/group supervision session will fulfill 1 hour of supervision credit toward your total hours, with individual counseling usually occurring weekly and group supervision occurring monthly.
The fee for individual supervision is $125 per 90-minute session which includes individualized guidance, support, and evaluation.
The fee for group (2 to 6 participants) supervision is $65 per 90-minute session, which includes collaborative learning, peer discussion, and shared supervision experience.
The process of supervision requires that you be open to talking about yourself, your family of origin, and assumptions and biases that you bring to this work. This may create some discomfort for you, but it is necessary as it all impacts clinical practice. Supervision is not intended to provide you with personal counseling or therapy. If personal issues of concerns arise, I will urge you to seek your own counseling.

The clients that you discuss in supervision need to know that you are in supervision with me. The content of our sessions and evaluation will be kept confidential, except when client safety is a concern. I may contact your on-site supervisor as needed with your knowledge. These guidelines will be discussed at our introductory meeting. You will be responsible for reading and understanding state and federal laws related to reporting requirements and emergency procedures for high risk or abused clients, as well as confidentiality and privileged communication. I will immediately report to the Board any unethical practice performed by you, the resident, in accordance with regulation 18VAC115-20-130.
*I abide by the ACA Code of Ethics, which will be referred to and reviewed regularly throughout the course of supervision.

I will complete all the necessary documentation required by me, as your supervisor, in compliance with 18VAC115-20-52(B)(1). You will be required to keep track of your direct client hours, indirect hours, and supervision hours. Please refer to them regularly and the Board’s evaluation form in order to be aware of your progress in light of the requirements. It is also your responsibility to maintain employment and keep the Board updated of changes in your work hours, duties, or employers.
